SOL Colonial Division
North Penn 2, Pennridge 1
North Penn opened up its season, and Colonial Division play with a big rivalry win on the road Friday morning, edging Pennridge 2-1 in the debut of new head coach Maurice Haye.
Rylan Weed and Jonathan Morales scored the Knights’ goals.
Weed scored on a header from a corner kick to send North Penn into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Morales buried a penalty kick in the second half. The Rams scored their lone goal in the second half on a corner.

Non-League Games
Council Rock South 3, Lower Moreland 1
After falling behind early, CR South tied it up before halftime, and then scored twice in the second half to pull past visiting Lower Moreland in the season opener for both teams on Friday.
Stephen Murray scored the go-ahead goal for the Golden Hawks on a penalty kick in the second half, and also assisted on a goal later in the game.

--The game: “Today was a really good win for us. Lower Moreland has talent across the field, they move the ball well, and they have a physicality that can wear you down. We
went down 1-0 midway through the first half on a set piece scramble in the box. I felt they had the better of play early in the game.
“Late in the first half, we scored on a set piece where the ball came from the right side. Will Van Demark got a touch on the ball, and Joe McGovern finished it. Joe made the most of a good chance.
“Second half started back and forth. It was physical on both sides. We were given a penalty kick when Carson Wade was brought down in the box. Stephen Murray finished from the spot to give us the lead.
“Stephen, one of our senior captains, showed great leadership today. He assisted AJ Renshall on the final goal with about 15 left. AJ had a nice finish to volley the ball up and over the keeper.”
–Props: “I want to credit our team mentality, work ethic and maturity today. Matthew Orsini and Dylan Friedfeld, our outside backs, had their hands full today. They stood tall in the second half when we needed them.
“Nolan Graham and Jake Sadhkin were excellent anchors in our midfield. Noah Selekman was terrific in net.
“Lower Moreland is a good team and asked a lot of us. A mature team can weather the storm and come out the other end. Credit to the boys today. I am proud of how we saw the game through and managed the win.”
Next up: CR South (1-0) opens up league play at rival CR North on Tuesday. Lower Moreland (0-1) hosts Calvary Christian in a non-league game Monday afternoon.

Bensalem 5, Ridley 0
Chase Esposito and Dylan Barnhart put on a show for Bensalem, combining for five goals in a season-opening non-league shutout win for the Owls over Ridley on Friday.
Esposito finished with three goals and one assist, while Barnhart had two goals and one assist.

--The game: “Boys had a strong start to the season with a solid 5-0 win over Ridley. I thought we started off strong and maintained good possession in the offensive third. We were able to get off several shots, one of which hit the crossbar, but couldn't find the back of the net. Ridley had a few dangerous rushes the other way before we ultimately got our first ball on a through ball from Declan Corbett which was tapped ahead by Chase Esposito to spring Dylan Barnhart for a goal.
“We then got another goal just before the half when Joey Francis hit a punt that made its way to the other 18 and was volleyed by Chase Esposito into the net for a 2-0 halftime lead.
“We knew Ridley would be coming out strong to start the second half, so we focused on matching that intensity early. We did that and were able to get an early goal when Brandon Bock slid a ball through to Dylan Barnhart who was able to center it for another goal from Chase Esposito. Dylan Barnhart then got another goal as well when Jordan Posten played a nice through ball that Dylan was able to run onto and finish. We got our final goal on another nice entry ball from Brandon Bock that was centered by David Romero to Chase Esposito for the hat trick.”
Props: “The back line of Brian Bock, Cole Everett, Danny Kalita, and Chris Fielding were solid all day and helped Joey Francis get a shutout in his first varsity game. Good start for the boys.”

Wissahickon 2, Southern Lehigh 1
Two penalty kicks and then an own goal highlighted an exciting second half, as Wissahickon picked up the game-winner in the 78th minute to win at Southern Lehigh in the season opener for the Trojans.
“Tough, well-played game with some good fortune at the end to seal the victory,” said Wissahickon coach Stuart Malcolm. “Southern Lehigh’s goalkeeper played extremely well. Players worked hard and created some good chances.”

Not much separated these two squads in a season-opener at West Chester Henderson’s Warrior Kickoff Classic, and they ended up battling to a scoreless tie Friday
afternoon.
“We had a very good first half and created a lot of chances, but we couldn't score,” said CB South coach Ed Brnardic. “In the second half, we lost a lot of our creativity and became predictable in our attack. Full credit to Unionville for coming up with a solid plan to stop us and I think they probably moved the ball better in the midfield than we did in the second half although we still had some really good chances to win the game.
“We are now looking ahead at two very tough games, first against an excellent Henderson program and next week against an exceptional Downingtown West team.”
– Props: “Leo Propato is really coming into his own in his senior season. Leo is a player whose style is quiet and modest, yet highly effective. He's solid defensively, he knows when to defend and when to tackle, and he is technically sound. He was a rock for us in the back line today.
“Maks Deliavskyi didn't have a busy day in goal, but he made a wonderful save in the first half backpedaling and knocking the ball over the bar. He displayed excellent ball skills coming out of the box to control loose balls, and he was calm and cool thought-out the match, constantly encouraging players and promoting a positive vibe throughout the team.
Next up: CB South plays at Henderson Saturday night (7 p.m.).

Neshaminy 0, Holy Ghost Prep 0
Nearby rivals Neshaminy and Holy Ghost Prep had a defensive struggle Friday, as they opened with a scoreless tie.
Neshaminy coach Tom Foley:
--The game: “It was a good game, back and forth. Neither team generated a heck of a lot of chances. Both teams had things buttoned up pretty well. I thought we played really hard. We’ll have to work on finishing a little bit better, but I thought we did a good job.
“Overall, it was a good effort. We obviously would like to score some goals, but on the flip side, we did a really nice job defending today. We kept all their shots to basically outside the 18, which (goalie) Dylan (Cloud) gobbled right up. It was a good start for us. We’ll get back to it and see if we can generate a couple goals."
Props: “Our keeper, Dylan Cloud, played really well and managed the box really well. Our back four of Dean Goodwin, Nick Indellecato, Jake Fallon and Pat Kaiser played really well. Pat came off the bench, and he did a really nice job.
“I thought our central midfielders really held the game up pretty well. They did a good job of containing Sean Fleming, who is a clever and talented player, but we kept him under wraps most of the way, especially in the second half."
Next up: Neshaminy hosts Valley Forge Military Academy in another non-league game on Tuesday.

West Chester East 3, Hatboro-Horsham 2
Opening day miscues led to an early deficit that despite a spirited second half comeback effort was too much to overcome for Hatboro-Horsham in a 3-2 loss to West Chester East in a game played at Marple-Newtown.
Finn Marsden scored both of H-H’s goals in the second half to trim what had been a 3-0 deficit to one.

“We fell behind early with two mishaps defensively and gave up another goal right before halftime. The second half was a much better performance from the group, as we battled back to make the game 3-2 with 20 minutes left. Finn Marsden scored both goals, as we made it a one-goal game, but couldn’t find the equalizer.”
Props: “Evan Paone and Noel Nation played solidly in the midfield, Nick Bellizzie and Connor Colletto stabilized the back in the second half.”

Three minutes separated the two teams from overtime when – with three minutes remaining in regulation – Mike Tritz found the back of the net, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 win over a pesky Lions’ squad.

“It was a sloppy game, and it could have gone either way. It was a very, very definitely early game for both teams. You can see that both teams are still finding their identities and also getting their nerves out of the way.
“We definitely need to do some soul searching and start picking it up became Monday we play CB West, and we will not be forgiven for our mistakes. We have to learn how to limit our mental mistakes. Hopefully, we got all those things out of the way in this game.
New Hope coach Chris Van Pelt:
“It was a great effort from the boys today. We’ve had a handful of injuries this preseason, so we only had 14 guys playing today. We’ve had a decent preseason and came into the day with a pretty clear game plan to try and find some result.
“We had a lot of young guys with little varsity experience step up today and had a great impact on the game. Even though we didn’t get the result, it was a performance to be proud of and a great starting point to build on over a long season.”
Next up: Upper Dublin (1-0) hosts CB West in another nonleague game on Monday. New Hope (0-1) opens up Freedom Division play Wednesday against Lower Moreland.
