North Penn 14, Neshaminy 13 (2 OT)
You never forget #1.
And with the manner in which North Penn won its first game of the season – and its first win under new head coach Lorenzo Marin – it’s safe to say this was one that the Knights will remember for a long, long time.
Emerson Morelli scored the golden goal with 1:30 left in the second overtime period to give North Penn a stunning victory in a game in which they trailed by five at one point and put the Knights in the win column for the first time in seven games this season.
"To start the season 0-6 with a very tough schedule, it was absolutely exhilarating to get that first win,” Marin said of the victory. “I was hired less than two weeks before the season started, and my paperwork to be the official head coach did not even clear until the first day of practice. So, we had very limited time together as a coach/team.
"We have about 10 new players that never played lacrosse until the first day of practice. Three of them saw important playing time in the second half and in overtime at defense and midfield, so that was super-exhilarating.”
Morelli finished with five goals and one assist to lead the Knights while Carson Schubert also had five goals. Jayden Davenport also had a five-point game with four goals and one assist, including the game-tying goal.
Austin Tvarok led the Redskins in scoring with three goals and five assists. Jaxon Olszewski recorded a whopping 20 saves to keep Neshaminy in the game..

--The game-winner: "It was their ball. They called a timeout. They had a guy dodge from a high corner near midfield against one of our shorties. He tried to back our guy down. Our guy stepped away from him, he fell, and our guy stripped the ball, picked it up, pushed it downfield, hit Emerson Morelli, the point attackman. The low guy cut through, and Emerson took his guy underneath and went top shelf within 4 or 5 yards of the cage."
—Battling back: “We were down pretty much the whole game. We came back to tie it with 3 minutes left in regulation. We went up with 1:50 left, and then with 1:30 left, they tied it back up at 13.
—Overcoming adversity: "In the first half, one of our defenders took a shot in the jaw and possibly lost a tooth, possibly has a broken jaw. Then in the third quarter, we had a defender hyperextend his knee. So, both of those guys got subs with guys that have not seen a lot of playing time.
"Our starting goalie went down in overtime, and our second-string goalie who doesn't see a lot of time stepped in and gave up no goals.
"This (win) was the culmination of a lot of different things for why we're happy about it, but the first win under my belt, the first win under the team's belt for the season. There were a lot of important pieces there."
—Props: "Emerson Morelli, Jayden Davenport, Carson Schubert, John Greene, Jake Langeveld, Finn Howard, Sam Norton, Justin Urbinati and Connor Bailey – those guys were key pieces. Honestly, the whole starting lineup contributed at numerous points with takeaways, ground balls."
—Growing the team: “We had 17 kids graduate last year and only five seniors this year. I had 28 kids on the roster a week before the season started. A lot of ice hockey kids decided they wanted to come back when originally they said they weren't going to come back. A lot of new kids, and now we're sitting at roughly 42 or 43 kids.”
Neshaminy coach John Donato:
"Lacrosse is known for rapid momentum swings, quick transitions, faceoff battles, and occasional turnovers. This game featured all of those elements. Our offense, led by Austin Tvarok and Nick Turchi, consistently won 1v1 matchups, and Cayden Weaver and Ryan Ganzel played well at the midfield, while EJ Sietz and Caden Fogleman disrupted North Penn’s clears.
"Despite trailing throughout, credit the Knights for taking a 13-12 lead late in the fourth quarter before Austin Tvarok tied it up with under a minute left. Both teams had opportunities in overtime, but North Penn forced a turnover in double OT and scored the winning goal. It was a hard-fought intense contest between two competitive schools building their lacrosse programs in a tough SOL National league. Afterward, Assistant Coach Austin Marshall encouraged the team to reflect and keep pushing forward."
Up next: North Penn will host nonleague opponent Crestwood Friday at 7 pm. Neshaminy will host Upper Moreland in an SOL Crossover game at 4 pm Monday.

Souderton 8, Central Bucks West 6
After falling behind 2-0 after one quarter, Souderton rallied and pulled out an 8-6 win over Central Bucks West in Thursday’s National Conference matchup.
The Indians were led by the three-point game of Chris Touhey while Liam Murray’s four ground balls and two caused turnovers paced the defense. Andrew Rivera recorded nine saves in a winning effort in goal for the Indians.
Colton Albrecht and Owen Becker each had two goals and an assist for the Bucks.

Hatboro-Horsham 13, Cheltenham 3
Hatboro-Horsham goalkeeper Anderson Kirby turned aside 15 Cheltenham shots to lead the Hatters to a 13-3 win in Thursday’s American Conference game.
Jayson Rabbe led the Hatters – who saw 15 different players register points – with three goals.

Mason Best and Brian Devitis each registered one save as Plymouth Whitemarsh posted a rare shutout of Upper Moreland, 13-0 in Thursday’s American Conference matchup.
Zach Strohl had 10 draw controls, and Drew Strohl had a goal and six assists to lead the offense.

Michael Pillegi was both a scorer and facilitator in Thursday’s win, scoring a team-high five goals and assisting on six others in a standout effort. Chase Foster and Matthew Shohen both had four-point games for UD while Tristen McNichol contributed a hat trick.

Wissahickon 11, New Hope Solebury 10
The Trojans came out strong, striking early with two quick goals from Kyle Intal and Colin Murphy, with Austin Myers adding an assist to spark the offense.
New Hope responded late in the first quarter when Brady Restaino scooped up a ground ball in front of the crease and finished, netting the first of his three goals on the day. The Lions began to find their rhythm at the faceoff X, highlighted by Colin Foster winning a draw and taking it straight to the cage for a goal. That momentum carried forward as New Hope rattled off three more unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead.
Foster capitalized throughout the game, especially with Trojan faceoff specialist Nolan Reilly sidelined due to injury. He dominated the X, going 16-of-23 while also contributing four goals. After additional tallies from Restaino and Foster, the Trojans answered when Chase Comer found Murphy to cut into the deficit.
The second quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle. Link Matozzo finished on the doorstep off a Murphy assist to bring Wissahickon within one at 5–4. New Hope quickly answered with a goal from Isaiah Tousignant, but Intal responded almost immediately, continuing his hot streak with his fourth goal—marking his second consecutive game with four goals.
New Hope took advantage of a man-up opportunity with two Trojans in the penalty box, as Restaino converted to extend the Lions’ lead to 7–5. Wissahickon closed the half strong, however, capitalizing on an extra-man opportunity with Myers connecting with Comer to tighten the score heading into halftime.
In the second half, Wissahickon turned to freshman Casey Cloud at the faceoff X. Cloud was one of several freshmen making an impact, as six underclassmen between both teams saw meaningful varsity minutes. For New Hope, Lasky and Restaino stood out, while Cloud, Hugh Sterndale, Nic Etzler, and Brayden Dehner contributed for the Trojans. In his varsity debut, Cloud won four key
faceoffs.
The Trojans opened the third quarter with goals from Intal and Murphy, but Foster answered on extra-man offense to tie the game at 8–8. From there, senior leaders Paulie Brogan and Matozzo stepped up, scoring pivotal goals to give Wissahickon a lead they would not relinquish.
Defense took center stage in the fourth quarter, with both goalies—Colt Catalano and Liam Ruhren—turning in outstanding performances, each recording 11 saves.
Wissahickon maintained possession late and held off New Hope to secure a hard-fought 11–10 victory in Suburban Conference play.
