SOL Freedom Division
Upper Moreland 13, New Hope-Solebury 1 (5 innings)
Motivation was not an issue.
Upper Moreland was coming off of its first loss of the season Thursday against Springfield. And a UM victory Monday would clinch the SOL Freedom title outright.
The Golden Bears won in commanding fashion, with four runs in the second and six in the third on the way to a 13-1 mercy-rule rout of visiting New Hope-Solebury.
“Great to get everybody in the game today,” said UM coach Jim Fasano. “They’re a wonderful group of young men and I am grateful to play even a small role in their lives.
“Winning the division was our first goal, now we’re playing for playoff seeding over these next two games against NH-S.
“We’ll have time this summer to reflect on what’s been a special season thus far, but we have bigger goals in mind. Back at it tomorrow and our Senior Night is Thursday, good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise (rain is in the forecast), so still a lot of big moments left for these guys.”
Fasano’s squad pounded out 10 hits, five of which were doubles, and ace Nick Simons and reliever Josh Darsney combined on a one-hitter.

Key Inning: Bottom of the 2nd - A one-out double by Mike Harter started things for UM, and Gavin Shaffert followed with an RBI single. A Jimmy Murray double made it 2-0, Jackson Townsend also had an RBI double, and a Chase Rampulla RBI single wrapped up the four-run inning.
UM coach Jim Fasano:
“A nice performance by a whole bunch of guys today against a quality New Hope team.
“‘Squirrel’ Simons threw three innings of six strikeout ball, departing with 57 pitches and the ability to return to the mound on Thursday.
“Mike Harter and Jackson Townsend hit doubles off the wall, I hope they went to the weight room after the game. Gavin Shaffert and Chase Rampulla had two hits apiece. Gavin, Jimmy Murray and ‘Poo’ O’Connor each drove in two. Murray got hit twice, which I think is the baseball gods’ final reckoning for his bat flip a few weeks ago against Wood.
“Jake Gibbs and Cannon Campbell each had pinch hits, and Bryce Fuller showed off his elite athleticism to make a fabulous play in left field in the last inning. Josh Darsney threw the final two innings, giving up zero hits in the process.”

Cheltenham 12, Lower Moreland 0
Fourteen batters came to the plate in the decisive fourth inning, as Cheltenham put up a 10-spot and blew past Lower Moreland in five innings by a 12-0 final score.
Left fielder Billy Fishman had a two-run home run and a two-run double in the inning. Tim Dugan and Sean Trainor had two hits in the inning, as well.
Key Players: C - Finn Kopp (WP, 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 10 K; 3-for-4, 3 RBIs), Billy Fishman (2-for-3, HR, double, 5 RBIs, 2 runs), Tim Dugan (3-for-3, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Sean Trainor (2-for-3, double, 1 RBI).
Key Inning: Top of the 4th - Nate Batiancila started the inning with a double, and the next batter, Billy Fishman, ripped a home run to left field to up Cheltenham’s lead to 4-0. Tim Dugan and Sean Trainor then singled, and Emile Chanoine walked to load the bases. An error scored another run, Finn Kopp had a two-run single, Fishman a two-run double, Dugan an RBI double and then Trainor wrapped up the scoring with an RBI double.
Cheltenham coach Lukas Nakkula:
“It was a great team win today. Finn Kopp was in command all game on the mound and looked awesome. Billy Fishman also had a big day at the plate, and the depth of our lineup showed today as we had great swings from 1-9 the whole game.
“It was a big bounce back win from a tough loss last week as well.”

Springfield Twp 13, William Tennent 0 (6 innings)
After two really good wins to end last week, Springfield started its final SOL Freedom series in style, with a 13-0, mercy-rule shortened victory at William Tennent on Monday.
The Spartans scored 13 runs (10 in the fifth and sixth innings) on 17 hits. Eight different hitters had hits, and five players had multiple hits.
Matt Sokel pitched six shutout innings.
Key Players: S - Matt Sokel (WP, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 6 K; 2-for-3, 1 RBI), Anderson Kerper (4-for-4, 2 doubles), Nathan Brockmeyer (2-for-4, 4 RBIs), Rocco Lugrine (3 RBIs), Ryan Brnich (3-for-3, 2 runs), Mike Capoferri (2-for-4, 2 runs).
Key Inning: Top of the 5th - Already leading 3-0, Springfield blew it open with four in the fifth on five hits. Nathan Brockmeyer and Rocco Lugrine both had two-run singles. Anderson Kerper had a double.
Springfield coach Rob Bond:
“We got another great outing from our starting pitcher, Matt Sokel. He has really come on in his last two starts.
“Offensively, it was great to see us hit the ball through the middle of the field. Every batter had at least one hit which was great to see.
“Senior catcher Anderson Kerper with a great 4-for-4 day at the plate. Sophomores Nathan Brockmeyer and Rocco Lugrine had great days at the plate with seven RBIs combined.
“We have to come out tomorrow with the same approach.”

SOL Liberty Division
Plymouth Whitemarsh 6, Wissahickon 5
Round 1 in the heavyweight fight for the SOL Liberty title went to Plymouth Whitemarsh in dramatic fashion as it scored three runs in the top of the seventh and then held off Wissahickon in the bottom half of the inning for the 6-5 win on the road Monday.
With the win in Game 1, PW can clinch the division title with a win at home against the Trojans on Tuesday.
The Colonials scored three runs in the top of the seventh on one hit - a leadoff single by Michael Bongard - as well as two walks, a hit-batter, an error and a sac fly.
Reliever Max Eagland recorded the final two outs in the bottom of the seventh after Wissahickon rallied to cut it to 6-5 and had the tying run on base.
Key Players: PW - Brody Stump (2-for-3, double, triple), Spencer Rosen (2-for-4, double 2 RBIs), Bobby Pasquarello (2 RBIs; 5 2/3 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 12 K).
W-Josh Stonesifer (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), Giulio Carbo (2-for-4, 1 RBI).
Key Inning: Top of the 7th - Tied at 3, Michael Bongard led off with a single, Brody Stump walked and Mason Eagland was hit by a pitch to load the bases. One run scored on a Max Eagland walk, another on an error and then Bobby Pasquarello drove in a third run with a sac fly to center field.
PW coach Chris Manero:
“Full team effort today with a lot of moving parts.
“After a bit of a slow start, Bobby (Pasquarello) was outstanding on the mound. I think he likes these big moments the best, and he showed that today. He even got a second chance when we re-entered him to hit, and he picked up a big RBI for us.
“We had to shuffle the infield defense in the bottom of the seventh when we went to Max to close it out, and Cole Reilly and Brandon Wooldridge each came up with a big play when we needed it.
“It wasn't the smoothest from start to finish, but the result gave us the start to the week that we wanted.”

Upper Dublin 3, Quakertown 2
Upper Dublin has picked a good time of the season to get hot. With a 3-2 win over Quakertown Monday, the Flying Cardinals have now won five straight games as the start of the postseason is looming.
After a Quakertown run in the top of the seventh gave the Panthers the 2-1 lead, UD countered with two to win it, as Matt Logerstedt walked it off with an RBI single to right field.
Key Players: UD - Eddie Stoffel (2-for-4, double, 1 RBI), Matt Logerstedt (1 RBI), Gavin Litten (triple, 1 RBI), Aiden Stephenson (5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K), Braeden Skahan (WP, 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K).
Q - CJ Peacher (2-for-3, double, 1 RBI), Justin Hankinson (2-for-2, double, 1 run).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 7th - Will Claxton drew a one-out walk to start things, and a sacrifice bunt by Mike Lombardo put the runner in scoring position. Eddie Stoffel followed with an RBI single to tie the game. After Stoffel stole second, Matt Logerstedt’s RBI single ended the game.
UD coach Ed Wall:
“Our sophomore pitchers, Stevenson and Skahan, did a heck of a job keeping them off balance.
“The bottom of our order got on when we needed them the most. Eddie Stoffel continues to get hits when we need it. Today was a big one to tie it up.”
“Logs snuck one through the four-hole to score Eddie for a huge win.”

Hatboro-Horsham 6, Abington 1
It took three innings, but once Hatboro-Horsham started scoring Tuesday, it never stopped, as the Hatters got past visiting Abington 6-1 in a Liberty Division game.
The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for H-H.
Shane Mills allowed only one run on one hit in 6 2/3 innings on the mound.
Key Players: HH - Shane Mills (WP, 6 2/3 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K), Conner Cataldi (2-for-4, double), Colin Daly (2-for-2, 1 RBI), Brendan Heaphy (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Ryan Remally (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 runs).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 3rd - Trailing 1-0, Colin Daly was hit by a pitch to start the inning, English and Kenny Lutz drew one-out walks to load the bases. Two runs then scored on a Chase Canney fielder’s choice ground out.

SOL Colonial Division
Pennridge 5, North Penn 4
When things are going well for a team, it finds ways to win games.
For Pennridge Monday, it shook off a four-run deficit, tied it up to force extra innings and then walked it off in the ninth for a 5-4 win over visiting North Penn.
The win clinches at least a share of the Colonial Division title for the Rams.
It was Pennridge’s ninth straight victory.
North Penn is squarely on the bubble for the 24-team District One Class 6A playoffs, with two games remaining against Pennridge to keep its postseason hopes alive.
Key Players: P - TJ McGuigan (double, 3 RBIs), Nick Calabretti (2-for-3), Tim Croyle (2-for-3), Anthony Cox (WP, 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K).
NP - Grayson Fontaine (HR, 1 RBI).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 9th - Tommy Ginnetti and Brayden Robinson drew walks to start the inning. With one out, T.J. McGuigan doubled to center field to drive in the winning run.
Pennridge coach Dan Long:
“That was a great high school baseball game. We got contributions from a bunch of guys today as well as a few defensive web gems. Nick Calabretti robbing a home run in the ninth was a heck of a play which led to the walk off hit from McGuigan in the bottom half.”

Central Bucks East 8, Central Bucks South 0
Jason Abert has led the CB East pitching staff the last two seasons.
Monday night, in what could have been the final start of his high school career, Abert dominated with seven shutout innings for the 8-0 complete-game victory at rival CB South.
Abert allowed five hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out eight.
Offensively, the Patriots broke open a 1-0 game with seven runs over the final two innings.

Key Inning: Top of the 6th - Clinging to a 1-0 lead, CB East extended its lead with three runs. Jason Abert led off with a walk, Mason Hill had a one-out single and Cole Gillman followed with a two-run single. An RBI groundout by Travis Halbe made it a 4-0 game.
CB East coach Kyle Dennis:
“It was a great night for us. Jason Abert – who’s been our workhorse the last two years - had a great night tonight. Seven innings pitched, five hits, didn't give up a walk, eight Ks, and just attacked. He was 68 of 97 (pitches) for strikes, so he was well above 65 percent, just attacking hitters with all of his pitches.
“I am thrilled for him, just because he's been our workhorse the last couple of years.
–Offensively: (CB South’s) Luke Hillegas is very talented, but once we got to their bullpen, we were able to do some damage.”
– Props: “Cole Gillman was 3-for-3, three RBIs, a run scored, playing third base for us tonight. We, unfortunately, lost our shortstop, Tyler Muzzi on Saturday with a broken collarbone playing Council Rock South, so we moved our third baseman Mason Hill to short, and Cole has been filling in at third base for us. (We) can put him anywhere in the infield, and he can do a pretty good job. So, we're thrilled for him tonight.”

Souderton 7, Central Bucks West 0
With some welcome run support, Souderton’s Trent Lutz was on his way, throwing a complete-game, no-hitter as the Indians clinched Game 1 of the series by a 7-0 final score under the lights on Monday night.
The win was the sixth in the last seven games for Souderton.
Lutz allowed just two base runners, a hit-batter in the first inning and a walk in the sixth. He struck out 13, including the final two batters to clinch the no-hitter and the victory.
Key Players: S - Trent Lutz (WP, 7 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 13 K), Evan Divens (3-for-4, triple, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Gavin Wisnoski (2-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Charlie Hunsicker (double, 2 RBIs).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 1st - Gavin Wisnoski reached on a one-out single, followed by an RBI triple to center field by Evan Divens. Divens – whose three-hit game led the Indians - later scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
Souderton coach Mike Childs:
“Trent was dominant tonight. He started the night a little under the weather, then had a nosebleed during the game, and then followed all that with a no-hitter. Shows he is a competitor and does not let a lot phase him.
“It has been great for our team all season when you have a guy like Trent to start the series. He gives our team confidence when he is on the mound.
“This is a big series this late in the season and everyone is fighting for a higher seed. Our bats also did a nice job putting up runs. Evan and Gavin stayed hot leading our offense with multiple hits.”
Next up: Souderton hosts CB West again on Tuesday night in Game 2 of the series.

SOL Patriot Division
Council Rock North 12, Bensalem 0 (5 innings)
A whole lot of offense and a dominant effort on the mound told the story for CR North Monday, as the Indians scored in all four of its at-bats in a mercy-rule win over visiting Bensalem.
Sophomore Ben Hinderberger did the job on the mound with five shutout innings and 11 strikeouts.
On offense, CR North had 12 runs on nine hits, five extra base hits, six walks and three hit-batters.
Key Players: CRN - Ben Hinderberger (WP, 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 11 K), Colin Goldman (2-for-3, double), Kyle Book (double, 3 RBIs), Schmidt (double, 1 RBI), Jude Hamilton (double, 1 RBI), Preston Martin (double, 1 RBI, 4 runs).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 1st - CR North took advantage of an error and a hit-batter, as Noah Furman had an RBI single, and Jude Hamilton drove a run home with a sacrifice fly to center field.
CR North coach Matt Schram:
“(Hinderberger) was dominant. I was really proud of how he handled the fourth inning when they had bases loaded and no outs. He battled through, which added to his maturity level and his ability to get out of a tough spot.
“The offense was in team mode today with just everyone getting a hit and playing unselfish baseball.”
Next up: The teams are back at it on Tuesday, as CR North plays at Bensalem.

Council Rock South 14, Harry S Truman 2
CR South entered the week needing wins, as it looked to end a four-game division losing streak.
The Golden Hawks scored eight runs in the second inning and never looked back, beating Harry S Truman 14-2 in five innings via the mercy rule.
CR South had 14 runs on 12 hits and took advantage of five Truman errors.
Key Players: CRS - Owen McLean (HR, 3 RBIs, 2 runs), Gavin Day (WP, 5 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K; 3-for-4, double, 3 RBIs), Nick DiSalvo (2-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 run).
Key Inning: Top of the 2nd - Landon White was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and Gavin Day then singled to put runners on first and second. After a sacrifice bunt, Nick DiSalvo walked to lead them up, and then Logan Kolimaga singled to drive in the game’s first run. Most of the damage then came with two outs, as Owen McLean walked with the bases loaded, back-to-back errors made it 5-0, White and Day both had RBI singles, and then a wild pitch led to another run in and a 8-0 score.
CR South coach Greg Paprocki:
“Great team win. In the first inning, we faced a little adversity with Reed Curtier going down with an injury before getting on the mound. Gavin Day did a tremendous job on short notice stepping in to fill in for Reed with little time to prepare. He was great the entire game, mixing multiple pitches for strikes, locating his fastball and really stepping up for us when the team needed the most. He was also tremendous at the plate going 3-for-4 and having multiple great at bats.
“It’s nice to see our pitchers starting to execute pitches at a higher clip and it’s even more encouraging has been the infield play the past few games. Early in league play our infielders really struggled, but they are now starting to take some strides, (and you can) see the result from putting extra work in each and every day. We’re hoping we can bring the same type of performance into tomorrow.”
