SOL Patriot Division
Council Rock South 6, Pennsbury 5
Coming off an extended Spring Break, CR South jumped back into the swing of things at unbeaten Pennsbury on Monday, and the Golden Hawks won a thrilling, back-and-forth game by a 6-5 final score.
After an error opened the door, CR South’s Jack Reynolds came up with the RBI single to left with one-out in the seventh.
CR South pitchers held Pennsbury to just three hits.
“I’m extremely proud of our guys for battling through adversity,” said Hawks coach Greg Paprocki. “At times, things didn’t always go our way, but they continued to compete, they continued to battle, and they ended up on top.
“Today is a great first step, but ultimately, it’s just one game. We need to get home, rest up, recoup and come ready to play tomorrow.”

Key Inning: Top of the 7th - Nick DiSalvo reached and went all the way to second on an error. Jack Reynolds followed with a single to left that plated the game-winner.
CR South coach Greg Paprocki:
“When it comes to this week, our program and especially our seniors are well aware of how difficult it can be to come back and play after a long layoff. Every year, our seniors head to Disney for a week, and it can be extremely difficult to come back and pick up where you left off as a team. From the moment the schedule came out, the seniors had this week highlighted, not only because it was the first game of league play, but they understood that this week has halted our momentum as a team in the past.
“We were able to get a good workout in this weekend, and you can clearly tell the players were focused and ready to go and understood how important today was.”
–The Game: “Today was a total team effort from our guys. We stress the importance of just simply staying in the game for all 21 outs. When you’re facing an arm like Keller Bradley you have to be able to grind out at bat and compete for 21 outs or a guy like that can easily get on a roll and begin to have his way with you.
“Our guys just had a team first approach in the batters’ box. When they went down in the count, they just kept fouling off pictures and battling in order to extend at bats.”
Next up: CR South will look to make it two straight against Pennsbury in Game 2 of the series at home on Tuesday.

Council Rock North 9, Neshaminy 8
Council Rock North hadn’t had a game since March, while Neshaminy looked the part of one of the favorites in the Patriot Division last week.
Monday, the Indians started fast with five runs in the bottom of the first and ended in style with a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh to pull off the 9-8 win.
CR North had nine runs on 15 hits, none bigger than Jude Hamilton’s RBI single with one out in the seventh to win the game.

Key Inning: Bottom of the 7th - Tied at 8, Zack Ruple drew a one-out walk for CR North and went to second on a wild pitch. After Preston Martin was intentionally walked, Jude Hamilton drove in the run with a single to right field.

“Historically, we’ve struggled in our first game following the Disney break, entering today with a 2-13 record. To come out and perform the way we did against a program that consistently competes for championships is a significant step forward for our team.
“While we had a few moments reflective of a young lineup, our senior leaders in the 1–2–3 spots set the tone and delivered strong performances. Ben Hinderberger gave us four outstanding innings on the mound, competing on every pitch.
“Overall, it’s a quality win against a very well-coached and talented team.

Harry S Truman 6, Bensalem 5 (8 innings)
Last week, Truman didn’t exactly kick off to its Patriot Division schedule the way it wanted to, taking its lumps against Pennsbury over three games. After winning a close non-league game 
Saturday against Roman Catholic, the Tigers won another close one Monday, scoring the game-winning run in the top of the eighth in a 6-5 thriller against rival Bensalem.
This one was back-and-forth, as Truman went up several times, only to see the Owls battle back, as it was 4-4 after six and 5-5 after five. Jayson Moyer had the game-winning RBI single in the eighth.
“It was a great win for our boys,” said Tigers coach Brian Sinkiewicz. “We showed a lot of toughness and resilience today, especially in a game that went back and forth late. Our guys stayed composed, continued to compete and found a way to get it done in extra innings.”

Truman coach Brian Sinkiewicz:
“We had contributions up and down the lineup, and I thought our approach at the plate and aggressiveness on the bases made a difference. On the mound, we got a strong start from Austin and a big effort out of Gavin in relief to close it out.
“Any time you can start the week with a league win, especially in a close game like that, it gives the group confidence. More importantly, it shows our players what we are capable of when we compete the right way.”

Souderton 3, Central Bucks East 2
Three first-inning runs held up, and Souderton received stellar pitching all game, edging CB East in the first of three Colonial Division games between the two teams this week.
Trent Lutz and Ethan Lesh held CB East to just four hits and two runs, and Lesh struck out the last four Patriot hitters to end the game.
Key Players: S-Trent Lutz (5 2/3 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 10 K), Ethan Lesh (1 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K), Patrick Wendell (3-for-3, 2 RBIs).

Key Inning: Top of the 1st - Souderton started quickly as Gavin Wisnoski and Brett Pollock had back-to-back singles, followed by a walk to Evan Divens and then Johnny Byrwa was hit by a pitch to score a run. With two outs, Patrick Wendell roped a two-run single to make it 3-0.
Souderton coach Mike Childs:
“Once again, we came out of the gate and scored three in the first and did not score a run the rest of the game. Thank goodness that was enough for the win today. We had plenty of guys on base but could not find a timely hit throughout the game to score more runs.
–The Pitchers: “Our pitching made up for our lack of timely hitting. Trent did a good job of keeping them in check with minimal damage. I was very impressed with Ethan Lesh coming and striking out the side in the seventh. He showed great confidence on the mound which we hope infects the rest of the team for the rest of the games for the week and the season.
“It was also good to see some guys start to warm up at the plate. Patrick Wendell was one of those guys with three hits today.”

Central Bucks West 10, Pennridge 0
The red-hot Bucks continued to sizzle, blasting Pennridge 10-0 in six innings for their third straight league game in which they scored 10 runs.
Monday, CB West scored two runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Pitcher Stephen Verdolini pitched a three-hit shutout, with eight strikeouts, and also hit a home run.
Pennridge was plagued by eight errors.

Key Inning: Bottom of the 3rd - Up 2-0, CB West added on with two more. Bobby Seaner had a single, Christopher Katsikis drew a walk, and Stephen Verdolini followed with an RBI single. Caden Fitzpatrick later walked with the bases loaded to make it 4-0.
CB West coach Tom Spratt:
“We had another solid all-around game today. Stephen Verdolini did a great job competing on the mound, got out of some tough spots with runners on, and then capped it off with a home run to end it on the mercy rule, which was great to see.
“We’re getting contributions up and down the lineup - especially from the bottom - playing clean defense, good base running and working to get ahead in the count has been the key. We have continued to improve each game.”

Central Bucks South 7, North Penn 4
Under the lights on Monday, CB South shook off a rough first week in SOL Colonial play with a big effort in a 7-4 win over visiting North Penn.
The Titans, who were swept by CB West last week, took control of the game with five runs in the bottom of the third, rode the pitching of Luke Hillegas and held on late to finish off the Knights.
Key Players: CBS-Luke Hillegas (WP, 5 2/3 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 8 K), Sean Kivlin (2-for-3, 1 RBI), Connor Markowitz (double, 1 RBI).
NP-Bud Murphy (double, 2 RBIs).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 3rd - A walk, an error and a hit batter loaded the bases with nobody out for the Titans. Sean Kivlin and Jake Blum had RBI singles, followed by back-to-back bases loaded hit-by-pitches and then a sac fly to right by Chase Drissel to spot CB South a 5-0 lead.
CB South coach David Bodzioch:
“Tonight was a great team win against a tough opponent in North Penn. We knew we’d have to bring our A game.
“Hillegas did what big game pitchers do. He was ready for the challenge and showed the type of player he is.
“It felt like we finally broke through and played our brand of baseball, which is a tough, gritty, let’s get after it group.”
Next up: North Penn looks to even the series at home against CB South on Tuesday.

SOL Freedom Division
Upper Moreland 13, Cheltenham 11
After blasting 13 runs on 13 hits through the first five innings, Upper Moreland held off a late Cheltenham charge to remain unbeaten with a 13-11 victory in the first of three games between the teams on Monday afternoon.
The Golden Bears led 13-4 through 4 1/2 innings, before Cheltenham rallied with two in the fifth and five in the bottom of the seventh.
Luke Sword was 3-for-4 to lead the hit parade for UM.

Key Inning: Top of the 5th - Michael Harter led off with a single, and pinch-runner Jacob Spaetti stole second and third, and scored on an error. Chase Rampulla added an RBI single, Chase Moore drove a run home with a sac fly, and Luke Sword had a RBI single to make it 13-4.
Upper Moreland coach Jim Fasano:
“I think I aged a few years in the seventh inning, and considering that my hair is already graying and falling out at 42, I don’t have much room to work with.
“Cheltenham is an extremely talented team and doesn’t quit. I can see a world where they use this as momentum going into another important ballgame tomorrow.
“A good friend texted me after the win that there are ‘no pictures on the scorecard’, and he is right. We won the game, tomorrow it’s 0-0, and ultimately, there are no extra points for winning pretty. All of our guys got in the game, we scored 13 runs in a win, how can I be upset?
“Cheltenham’s starter (Finn Kopp) is going to East Stroudsburg to play next year, and he is one of the best arms we’ll see all year. We scored eight off of Finn, which normally would be enough to win but today was not a normal game. Some big hits by Jackson Townsend, Chase Moore, Luke Sword, Gavin Shaffert, Jimmy Murray and Zach O’Connor.
“This was a total team win, and almost a total team catastrophe, but hey, good teams win ugly sometimes. I say all the time how fortunate I am to be around these boys on a daily basis, and tomorrow is another day we get to spend competing together. Eamon Ivory will be a challenge, but that’s what we’re here for and, as I also always tell them - they’re probably tired of hearing it - it’s not going to be easy, and we won’t be given anything.”

Springfield Twp 10, Lower Moreland 0
Dominant pitching from Ryan Trader, and timely hitting was the difference for Springfield, which snapped a three-game division losing streak with a dominant win over Lower Moreland on Tuesday.
Starter Ryan Trader pitched five no-hit innings for the Spartans, walking just one and striking out seven. He was pulled after 67 pitches, and reliever Jack Massari closed out the game with a scoreless sixth.
Key Players: S-Ryan Trader (WP, 5 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K), Matt Sokel (3-for-4, 2 runs), Rocco Lugrine (2-for-4, 1 RBI), Ryan McGuckin (2 RBIs).
Key Inning: Top of the 4th - Up 3-0, Springfield added on four to stretch its lead. Anderson Kerper drew a one-out walk, Matt Sokel singled, and a sac fly by Nathan Brockmeyer scored Kerper. Jake Gibson followed with an RBI double to center and a Ryan McGuckin single scored to make it a 7-0 game.
Springfield coach Rob Bond:
“The team feels glad they finally got their first league win. We got an outstanding performance from Ray Trader. Matt Sokel, Rocco Lugrinie and Ryan McGuckin had great days at the plate.
“The team as a whole did a lot of the little things you need to win a ballgame. They are excited to get back out there tomorrow.”

New Hope-Solebury 10, William Tennent 7
With four runs in the top of the fourth, New Hope rallied to knock off William Tennent in the first of three games between these two Freedom Division foes. With the win, the Lions remain unbeaten.
New Hope bounced back from deficits of 3-1, 5-3 and 7-6. The Lions scored 10 runs on 14 hits, including four in the critical seventh innings.

New Hope coach Tony Vlahovic:
“Game 1 with William Tennent was a very good high school game. Two tough pitchers - Mike Woehr for (Tennent), who is definitely solid and had his pitches working. Anthony Whelan didn’t have his ‘A’ game on the hill. He struggled with his command and learned how to pitch without his best stuff. JT Bach came in relief and had his command and, again, very poised coming into the game with the bases loaded.
–Defense: “Both teams made plays and always threw a few away. Due to the miscues and both teams hitting the ball hard, the score was a see-saw battle, changing hands four times.
–Props: “Clutch hitting by Blake McCagg, Lucas Kevorkian, Charlie Plebani, Joe Rickard and excellent quality at bats for both Kiernan Patel and Nathan Plebani.
“Very good team win for New Hope.”

SOL Liberty Division
Hatboro-Horsham 3, Quakertown 2
Hatboro-Horsham didn’t hit a ton, but had good at-bats, jumped up early and used quality pitching to hold off visiting Quakertown in a Liberty Division showdown on Monday afternoon.
H-H won for the fourth time in its last five games, including three in the division.
Monday, the Hatters had just two hits on the day, but drew eight walks, including four by leadoff hitter/catcher Kenny Lutz. They jumped up with two runs in the bottom of the first and pitchers Shane Mills and Ryan Remaily didn’t allow an earned run.
“What a gutsy win for our ballclub,” said Hatters’ coach Andy Fisher. “Our offense was not good today, and that had a lot to do with their pitchers. They changed speeds really well and kept our lineup off balance all day. We were able to create some traffic on the base paths early and take advantage of a couple of miscues.”
Key Players: HH-Shane Mills (WP, 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K), Ryan Remaily (Save, 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K), Conner Cataldi (1 RBI), Brayden Polichetti (1 RBI).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 1st - Kenny Lutz and Cole Incudine drew walks, Conner Cataldi followed with a one-out RBI single. Brayden Polichetti drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0.
H-H coach Andy Fisher:
“Shane Mills was great again for us. Two weeks in a row now he got us rolling in game one of the series. He was having trouble locating his curveball, but he kept his fastball down, and it was popping out of his hand. Quakertown has a very tough lineup, and Shane only gave up three hits. I was really proud of the way he competed today.
“Ryan Remaily came in the sixth inning with two on and no outs and was able to work his way out of it and then shut the door in the seventh for the save. Ryan is a freshman who plays all over the field for us. He definitely does not play or act like a freshman on the baseball field. For him to come into the game in such a high leverage situation and perform the way he did was really impressive. He is a tough kid who has a really bright future ahead.”
“I can’t say enough about the toughness our guys showed today. That is a good ball club who is always at the top of the league standings. We have been challenged early this year, and I love the way my guys have responded. I just love this group, and we get better every time we step on the field together.”

Hatboro-Horsham 200 100 x- 3 2 1
Abington 9, Wissahickon 6
Abington needed a win, and with a determined effort, the Galloping Ghosts battled all the way and put away visiting Wissahickon by a 9-6 final score in the first game of the three-game series on Monday afternoon.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Ghosts, who jumped up 3-0 early, answered right back when Wissahickon took the lead in the fourth and added on to clinch the win. They

Key Inning: Bottom of the 4th - Trailing 4-3, Gavin Grasso, Phin Capone and Braeden Crawford drew one-out walks for Abington to get things started and load the bases. A two-out error plated two runs, and then Wagner De Leon cashed in with an RBI single, and Eric Engler followed with an RBI single of his own to make it a 7-4 game.
Abington coach George Kotsopoolos:
“Absolutely, it was a team win. Our offense answered every time Wissahickon scored in the top of the inning, we answered in the bottom of the inning.
“Our catcher Phin Capone kept Wissahickon’s running game in check with two caught stealing attempts and our defense played well overall.
‘It was a good team win.”
